Re-Elect Raevan HOWARD!

Councilwoman Raevan Howard was born in Tuscaloosa to former City Councilor Bobby Howard and Kim Howard. She graduated from Central High School and received a bachelor’s degree in social work from the University of Alabama. Ms. Howard serves on the Board of Trustees for Culver Road Church where she has been a member since birth.

Ms. Howard is serving her 2nd term on the City Council and is looking forward to working with her Constituents to continue to move District 2 forward.

Leadership Beyond District 2

Ms. Howard serves on the Human Development (HD) Standing Committee for the Alabama League of Municipalities. The HD committee reviews and recommends policy on social service and educational issues that affect municipalities. This Committee convenes in Montgomery at the League headquarters with state and federal resource advisors, the committee makes recommendations that are presented to Alabama Legislators during the regular Legislative Session. Most recently the committee discussed policy recommendations concerning the statewide mental health crisis.

Supporting the Misson of “working every day to spread awareness about child abuse prevention in the Tuscaloosa, Alabama area”

WAMA Board Member

West Alabama Multicultural Alliance- A 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization created to acknowledge the richly diverse cultural heritage of people of color throughout West Alabama.

Planning and Zoning Commission

Since 2021 Councilwoman Raevan Howard has represented the City Council on the Planning and Zoning Commission. This Committee governs agenda items regarding Annexations, Rezoning’s, and Subdivision pre-design request. Some cases are recommendations to the City Council and on other issues the commission is the final authority on the case.

In matters pertaining to subdivision regulations, approval of subdivisions within the City and its Planning Jurisdiction, and Planned Unit Developments located outside the City limits, the Planning Commission is the final authority.

In matters pertaining to Historic Buffer zone construction, the Planning Commission is the final authority, though the decision is subject to appeal to the City Council

In matters pertaining to original zonings, rezoning, Planned Unit Developments (PUD) within the City, street vacations, Downtown/Riverfront Overlay District applications, and Riverfront Development District applications, the Planning Commission is a recommending body to City Council.

Public Safety Chair

Since 2017 Councilwoman Raevan Howard has Chaired Public Safety. Working Closely with the Community and the Tuscaloosa Police Department remains an important objective Ms. Howard.
