Advocate for Recreation & Activities
As a leader, I truly enjoyed taking the lead to provide the most enjoyable amenities to my community. As a native of West Tuscaloosa and mother of three, Hillary, Malia, and Marcus, I personally know the importance of having access to updated, adequate and affordable parks and recreation facilities that are easily accessible to my community.
During my first term in office, I was an adamant supporter of updating the current recreation facilities in my district. Knowing the importance of these amenities, I worked closely with PARA, Mayor Walt Maddox, City Leadership and held a number of meetings to engage with the community about the changes we all wanted to see. I am proud to see this hard work transform into a reality.
In 2019, I jumped on the opportunity to support Elevate Tuscaloosa because I saw the opportunity to “Elevate” District 2. I immediately advocated for the opportunity to have the McDonald Hughes Center updated by completing much awaited renovations. These renovations included: the completion of the Men and Women’s locker room, the completion of the playroom unit with a full size, vibrant indoor playground, the addition of a tournament size basketball court, an awning over the entrance of the McDonald Hughes Center, and the conversion of wheelchair accessible doors.
Although I am proud of this progress, this was just Phase 1 of projects that I will advocate for. Once I am re-elected, I will continue to be an advocate for my district by advocating for an indoor therapeutic swimming that can be used by the seniors and others that frequent the community and a recreation pool for everyone.
